Art Docent. Help in the classroom to facilitate fun, meaningful, and creative art projects. Supplies will be provided. This is an ongoing activity and is tailored to the volunteer's availability. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Art Family Night. Coordinate and help plan this family event focused on the exploration of art. (Timeframe - December)
Bellevue Art Museum. Help bring museum art to Briarwood. Schedule delivery of the artwork and coordinate volunteers to conduct tours for students and families. (Timeframe - March)
Camp Colman. Volunteers assist with the coordination of the fifth grade outdoor learning trip focusing on environmental education. Includes providing a parent information night. (Timeframe - June)
Carnival. This is one of our biggest and the most fun events! Volunteers help with planning and preparation, run the games and activities, sell wristbands, and serve food. There is something for everyone! The planning committee works throughout the school year, and this event is scheduled for a Friday in May. (Timeframe - May)
Drama Enrichment. Facilitate and help coordinate creative theatrical projects at Briarwood. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Family Fun Night. Work as a team to plan a family fun night. (Timeframe - Spring)
Field Day. Volunteers are needed during the event (last two hours of the school day) to run carnival-like events. This is a fun outdoor event that the kids look forward to all year. (Timeframe - June)
Fifth Grade Graduation. Volunteers help with decorations and refreshments for the fifth grade graduation ceremony. We have a nice tradition whereby fourth grade parents volunteer so that parents of fifth graders can enjoy the event. Flexible hours. The graduation ceremony usually takes place on an afternoon during the week before school lets out in June.
Gardening. Help keep the front planter box maintained. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Gift-a-Book. A program that gives students the opportunity to donate a book to the library and have a special marker placed inside the book with their name, date, occasion. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Humanitarian. Volunteers help organize such events as the Food Drive and Holiday Gift Giving, and/or other events to support families in need. Flexible hours are available. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Issaquah Schools Foundation (ISF). Volunteer to be the parent liaison for the Issaquah Schools Foundation. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Legislation Representative. Gather information on legislative issues that affect schools and our children. This committee provides an opportunity to attend an October conference. This is an ongoing committee with flexible hours and dates. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Lunchtime Book Swap. Help coordinate and plan this lunchtime event. (Timeframe - February)
Math/Game Family Night. Coordinate and help plan this family event focused on lots of fun math exploration and games. (Timeframe - January)
Missoula Children's Theatre. Help coordinate the production of the drama program. Parent volunteers are needed to help with logistics and rehearsals. (Timeframe - November to December)
Newsletter ("Bear Facts"). Prepare our monthly (electronic) PTA newsletter. Flexible hours. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Nominating Committee. This committee is elected at a Fall General PTA meeting. The committee is vital to the PTA as they are responsible for recommending individuals for next year's Executive Board. The committee meets in the winter months and presents a slate for election at the General PTA Meeting in February. Committee meeting dates/times are determined by its members. (Timeframe - Fall)
Parent Education Representative. Each school within the Issaquah School District has a parent education representative. All reps meet, plan, and coordinate seminars for the Issaquah school community. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Pizza/Bingo Family Fun Night. Help coordinate one of our favorite family fun nights! The PTA provides pizza for dinner and coordinates the Bingo game and prizes. The kids love this event! (Timeframe - November)
Popcorn Fridays. Each Friday the PTA sells popcorn to the kids. Help coordinate popping and distribution. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Pumpkin Carving. Help coordinate and plan this Family Fun Night where participants bring their own pumpkin and participate in a carving contest. (Timeframe - October)
Reading at Home (RAH). A monthly reading program designed to encourage students to establish a positive attitude toward reading. Help prepare and distribute monthly calendars for students to log their reading minutes. Includes overseeing year-end celebration. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Reflections. This is a national PTA program, where students show their creativity in the areas of visual arts, music and writing. Committee members will publicize the event and set up the awards night. Most of the work can be done in the daytime or evening. (Timeframe - Fall)
Science Enrichment (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Skating Parties. Committee members help with event publicity, ticket sales, and coordination. Flexible hours for the pre-event planning. (Timeframe - Fall & Spring)
Sock Hop. (Timeframe - Spring)
Staff Appreciation. Committee members help plan and provide refreshments at luncheons for the Briarwood staff. The events take place during the day, but some folks also help by simply dropping off refreshments on the morning of the event. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Student Directory. Volunteers update our database with student information, then design and publish the annual PTA student directory. (Timeframe - October)
Sunshine (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Variety Show. Committee reviews schedules and runs rehearsals; plans staging, costumes, and refreshments. (Timeframe - Spring)
Yearbook. This is an important ongoing committee that documents the history and memories of Briarwood students. Committee needs photographers and someone to coordinate sales/distribution. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
Webmaster/Webeditor. (Timeframe - throughout the year)
